Steps involved in online event registration

  1. Log in to your account. If you are not a member of our association, you may need to create a new account first.
  2. Once you have logged in, scroll down and click "Register Myself"
  3. Some events may require you to answer questions about dietary requirements and other information.
  4. If the event has program items, click "Add" next to any item you wish to attend (not all events have program items)
  5. Click "Proceed to Checkout" to pay for your registration. Your registration is not valid until we receive your payment.

Workshop - The Interpreter As An Expert Witness

This advanced workshop will focus on the role of the interpreter as an expert witness in legal proceedings. It will allow participants to discuss situations where an interpreter may be asked to give expert opinion evidence, beyond their role as an interpreter for a witness or defendant, including cases where an interpreter may be called on the identify or compare voices on surveillance tapes. The workshop will outline the evidentiary and procedural frameworks governing expert opinion evidence in criminal, civil and administrative decision making, with a particular focus on the legal and ethical obligations of interpreters as expert witnesses, including those established by the NSW Expert Code of Conduct. The aim of the workshop is to provide participants with opportunities to discuss their own experiences as 'case studies' and offer strategies to assist participants to respond to situations where, as interpreters, they may be being asked to give evidence on matters that may fall o
