CALL FOR PAPERS

Conference theme: Do you understand me? Intercultural aspects of interpreting, translation and communication.

The work translators and interpreters do evolves in sociocultural contexts that go beyond the mere linguistic transfer between two languages. Translators and interpreters participate in intercultural communication exchanges where different identities, beliefs and attitudes coexist. The AUSIT 2018 Conference will explore intercultural communication in different fields of expertise and will look into the different methodological and ethical approaches translators and interpreters take in order to perform successfully in these complex cross-cultural communication settings.

The Organising Committee is now inviting translation and interpreting scholars as well as practicing translators and interpreters to submit proposals for papers addressing the conference theme.

Presentations on all related aspects are welcome including, but not limited to: practice, theory, research and pedagogy.

Submission

Proposals for individual paper presentations should be submitted as abstract of no more than 250 words via the submission page by 6 August 2018. Priority may be given to papers that address the following issues.

  • New and emerging languages in Australia and future career prospects in T&I;
  • Interactions between T&I professionals;
  • Challenges and professional issues in intercultural communication;
  • The role of new technologies in T&I in intercultural settings; and
  • The role of Indigenous languages and communities in the delivery of T&I services.
