Communications Officer

As AUSIT continues to grow, the need to promote the profession to a wider audience is ever more apparent. Therefore, applications are invited for the position of Communications Officer.

Objective: Support and maintain internal and external communications with different stakeholders and assist in executing the communications strategy as outlined by AUSIT.

Duties: The Communications Officer is primarily responsible for supporting the AUSIT Communications, Promotions and PR Committee, and implementing the communications policy and strategy.

Reports to: AUSIT Vice-president, Communications and PR, and AUSIT National Council.

Hours: 10 hours per week.

Remuneration: $60 per hour.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Develop promotional messages in consultation with the Communications, Promotions and PR Committee;
  • Participate in developing and evaluating of communication and marketing materials;
  • Assist in coordinating AUSIT’s communication activities and events;
  • Assist in conducting awareness-raising campaigns, events, workshops on behalf of AUSIT;
  • Take the lead in distribution of communication materials to relevant agencies and companies;
  • Draft relevant promotion documents and suggest recommendations on varied issues (as and when required);
  • Maintain and develop AUSIT’s online presence (LinkedIn, Facebook and other social media platforms):

    - Update AUSIT website content;
    - Liaise with the media; and
    - Produce a monthly newsletter.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

The Communications Officer may be required to perform duties that are beyond the scope of the job description in mutual discussion and agreement with the AUSIT National Council.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience – Selection Criteria

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Current membership of AUSIT;
  • Very high level of English, both verbal and written;
  • At least one year of professional work experience in designing and executing communication activities;
  • Relevant degree (preferably in marketing, communications or journalism);
  • Ability to work in a team and to deadlines;
  • Knowledge of, and experience, with communication;
  • Ability to communicate with people outside AUSIT, representing AUSIT to the public, government, and other agencies;
  • Knowledge of the T&I profession;
  • Ability to create new ideas and relationships, including creative contributions; and
  • Proficiency in use of computer applications and social media platforms related to the tasks.
