Members in the categories below are entitled to:

  • access members-only pages of the AUSIT website
  • receive e-Flashes about forthcoming events
  • attend AUSIT events at discounted rates

Ordinary Member

A translator or interpreter with appropriate qualifications and experience.

Criteria:

Qualifications: NAATI certification / accreditation / recognition OR formal T/I qualifications from a recognised institution in Australia or overseas OR other acceptable qualifications

Experience: at least 12 months’ experience as a T/I practitioner (paid or unpaid)


Senior Practitioner

Members with full engagement in the T/I industry at professional level or above for at least 5 years, and full financial AUSIT membership for the previous 5 years, can apply to upgrade to this category. For other specific criteria, refer to the Senior Practitioner application form.


Retired Member

A long-term AUSIT member who has retired / almost retired from practice, but wishes to continue their association with / participation in AUSIT.

Annual fee takes into account the member’s reduced income.

Criteria: The member needs to be aged 65 years or over, with at least 15 years’ continuous membership in AUSIT.

Student Member

A translating and/or interpreting student enrolled full-time or part-time in a formal T/I program at a recognised institution.

Membership in this category is limited to a maximum of 5 years.

Student members who have completed their studies are no longer entitled to membership in this category, but are expected to upgrade to Candidate or Member (depending on extent of experience).


Associate

Any individual who has an interest in the profession of translation and interpreting, but does not meet the criteria for Member, Candidate Member, or Student Member.
