Steps involved in online event registration

  1. Log in to your account. If you are not a member of our association, you may need to create a new account first.
  2. Once you have logged in, scroll down and click "Register Myself"
  3. Some events may require you to answer questions about dietary requirements and other information.
  4. If the event has program items, click "Add" next to any item you wish to attend (not all events have program items)
  5. Click "Proceed to Checkout" to pay for your registration. Your registration is not valid until we receive your payment.

ACT191116: Legal Interpreting - different modes & scenarios

Saturday 16 November 2019    1:30 pm - 4:00 pm (AEDT)

This PD event will provide an overview of legal interpreting as well as the federal and state court systems in ACT and NSW. We will also discuss case studies in different scenarios, including interpreting in courts and tribunals, jails and detention centres, mediations, lawyer-client consultations and medico-legal assessments. Participants will be invited to take part in interpreting practice activities and a Q&A session. At the end of this PD event, we hope you will gain some practical skills and knowledge that equip you for legal interpreting assignments.


Issa He is the principal interpreter and translator at Paragon Language services, a company that serves law firms in Sydney and Canberra. With a Master Diploma in Translation and interpreting and a Master Degree in Conference Interpreting, she has been working in various legal settings since 2012. Issa will share with you her experience working in courts, law firms, detention centres and other interesting legal-medical scenarios, and practical tips in working with legal professionals and clients

Vicky Wong is completing her PhD in court interpreting research at the University of New South Wales. Her academic credentials include Bachelor of Laws (HKU), Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (HKU), Master of Translation Studies (ANU), Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice (ANU) and Master of Social Research (ANU). She has worked in different professional areas including digital learning, legal practice, translation, research and teaching.

NB: Late fee will be applied for all registrations after 5:00 pm on 9 November - additional $10 on each category
