Steps involved in online event registration

  1. Log in to your account. If you are not a member of our association, you may need to create a new account first.
  2. Once you have logged in, scroll down and click "Register Myself"
  3. Some events may require you to answer questions about dietary requirements and other information.
  4. If the event has program items, click "Add" next to any item you wish to attend (not all events have program items)
  5. Click "Proceed to Checkout" to pay for your registration. Your registration is not valid until we receive your payment.

NSW190525 : Computer Assisted Translations

An aid in translation production

This workshop will give you a brief introduction on how to use CAT tools, focusing on the online tool Memsource and the universally recognized leader CAT tool SDL Trados.

You will get familiar with the different TenT environment, from a freelancer as well as project manager perpective, while allowing you to align previous work and build a Translation Memory and Termbase compatible with the various CAT tools. The first part of the workshop will focus on Memsource, a cloud-based software. You will learn how to use the different functionalities as well as aligning your previous translation work to build your translation memory. The second part of the workshop will enable you to get familiar with SDL Trados 2019. Finally, we will look at more advanced functionalities, essential tools for professional translators.

YOU WILL BE PROVIDED WITH A COMPUTER BUT IF YOU WISH TO BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE YOU MUST FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS

•             Internet access is needed to work on Memsource as it is a cloud-based CAT tool. (Internet Connection will be provided)

•             Make sure you have Microsoft office onto the computer

•             Make sure you bring your PC, as Trados is not compatible on Mac

•             Upload trial version of Trados onto your computer (Only up to 30 days before the workshop)

Presenter

Stephanie Muller is a French native speaker from the Alsace region, a five minutes walking distance from Germany and Switzerland. Being so close to different languages and cultures, and being raised as a bilingual, her interest in languages triggered from a very early age.

Throughout her travels in Australia, New Zealand, Turkey, England and various countries in Europe, she acquired skills in linguistics as well as using those assets in the workforce, being a tour guide as well as a French teacher.

She recently completed a Master in Advanced Translation and Interpreting studies at Macquarie University. During her studies, she had the opportunity to be trained in live-captioning by Pablo Romero Fresco, using the respeaking method. She has also been working as a project support for Macquarie University Translation office on various projects, such as the subtitling and translation of various MOOCs for the Audiology Department and the Big History.

Since she graduated, she has become a unit Convenor for the Audiovisual translation unit as well as Technology of translation unit within the Department of Linguistics at Macquarie University.

She is specialized in working with SDL Trados CAT and using the functionalities for beginner, intermediate and advanced users of this CAT tool. She also is fully trained on the use of Memsource.
