Steps involved in online event registration

  1. Log in to your account. If you are not a member of our association, you may need to create a new account first.
  2. Once you have logged in, scroll down and click "Register Myself"
  3. Some events may require you to answer questions about dietary requirements and other information.
  4. If the event has program items, click "Add" next to any item you wish to attend (not all events have program items)
  5. Click "Proceed to Checkout" to pay for your registration. Your registration is not valid until we receive your payment.

Chuchotage in Community Interpreting Settings

Chuchotage, also known as whispered interpreting, involves sitting behind one participant and interpreting in a low voice.

Chuchotage is used in interpreting in community settings such as in court, in some health care settings and in information sessions. This course offers the required chuchotage training for transition to certification and is also suitable for persons working in new and emerging languages who whish to gain certification in interpreting.

Session content:
- Definitions and some theory
- Practice in basic simultaneous interpreting (SI) techniques
- Practice in chuchotage in community interpreting settings
- Challenges and strategies for overcoming them
- Managing the situation and ethical issues
- Discussion and feedback

PD Level - Intermediate  :  10 points - Logbook Section 1.4 version 1.0


Felicity Mueller is a Certified Conference Interpreter in German and English and a member of the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC).
She is also a Certified Translator, working mainly from German and Russian into English. She is a freelance conference and community interpreter, and has used chuchotage in community, business and conference settings. She is currently teaching at the University of New South Wales.
