AUSIT NEWS
Each year, AUSIT stages a translation competition for its student members, plus students and recent graduates of its Educational Affiliate institutions.
Each year the focus languages vary. Of the seven languages proposed this year, the organisers – AUSIT’s Education Committee – were able to go ahead with Chinese, Italian, Japanese and Korean.
French, Thai and Vietnamese had too few contestants, and Thai and Vietnamese also had too few volunteer assessors.
In contrast, Chinese received a very high number of entries, as it has for most years of the competition, so a ‘highly commended’ was awarded in addition to a winner.
Congratulations to all five (see below). Their prize is free registration to two AUSIT PD webinars. We asked each of the four winners what winning this competition means to them:
CHINESE
Yuxin Li
‘Winning this competition is a great honour for me. It motivates me to keep refining my skills in translation.’
ITALIAN
Martina Battista
‘Winning the competition is a reminder for me that I am on the right track, and that translators are still skilled, valuable and appreciated! ’
JAPANESE
Anton Miyashita
‘Winning this competition has given me great confidence in my abilities, and motivation to continue pursuing my translation goals.’
KOREAN
Gahye Chae
‘Winning this competition gives me confidence in the path I’ve chosen and inspires me to keep growing as a translator and interpreter. Thank you!’’
CHINESE
