AUSIT Translation Competition

The inaugural AUSIT Translation Competition was held in 2020, and it has now become an annual event. 

 Each year we invite AUSIT Student Members, plus students and recent graduates of our Educational Affiliate institutions, to enter. 

The focus languages vary from year to year. 

A prize is awarded to the winner in each language, with an ‘honourable mention’ also awarded in any languages that receive a much higher number of entrants than the others that year. 

 

AUSIT Translation Competition 2024 is now closed for Expressions of Interest.

Relevant dates for 2024:

EOI submission closed at 11:59 pm on 19 July.

Successful* contestants and assessors will be informed by 31 July.

Once the language streams are confirmed,* the competition will be held in the week of 12 August. 

* For each language, we need at least two assessors and three contestants. The competition will be deferred or cancelled for any language that receives insufficient EOls. If this occurs, AUSIT will notify the applicants.

 

AUSIT Translation Competition 2024 is now open for Expressions of Interest (EOIs)!

Focus languages: Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Thai

EOIs are invited from AUSIT Student Members plus students at / recent graduates from our Educational Affiliate institutions 

EOIs are also invited from certified translators, to be assessors.

Contestant applications

Selection criteria – a contestant must be either:
  • an AUSIT student member,* OR
  • a student at* / recent graduate (< 12 months) from* one of AUSIT's Educational Affiliate institutions. **

* Please note: NAATI-certified translators / practitioners who have more than 5 years of experience (even if currently enrolled in a translation program) are not eligible to participate.

Assessor applications

Selection criteria – an assessor must:
  • be a current AUSIT member
  • hold a NAATI Certified Translator credential in the corresponding language pair
  • have a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience as a translator/ revisor/ trainer.
Contestant responsibilities:
  • Complete a 400- to 600-word translation from LOTE into English in one week.
  • Liaise effectively and promptly with the AUSIT Education Committee.

NOTE: Participants will be able to upload their translations at AUSIT Engage.

Assessor responsibilities:
  • Prepare a translation of the English text for reference.
  • Assess allocated translations within three weeks.
  • Work collaboratively with other assessors in the stream (where possible).
  • Liaise effectively and efficiently with the Education Committee.

for court interpreters to report incidents or issues that occur in court interpreting assignments.

Purpose and function of this information submission form.

This form enables you to report issues or problems that you encounter in the course of court interpreting assignments. These issues and problems will be collected by AUSIT to report to the JCCD (the Judicial Council on Cultural Diversity) to monitor the implementation of the Recommended National Standards. The reporting of these issues and problems enables AUSIT to work with the JCCD to suggest steps to address these issues and to avoid the repetition of these problems in the future.
