The Sydney Declaration (AUSIT National Conference Statement 2023)
Interpreter Feedback Form and Reports: experiences in courts and tribunals
The AUSIT National Conference is Australia’s peak industry forum for professionals working across the diverse disciplines that make up the translation and interpreting (T&I) industry. It provides a platform on which practitioners, linguists, academics, language service providers, trainers, government agencies and other stakeholders meet annually to discuss issues pertinent to T&I, and the various specialisations, approaches, theories, tools and technologies involved.
The conference is an extensive, intensive and inspiring event at which new ideas are generated, disciplinary boundaries are crossed, and knowledge about research and practice is shared. Delegates from all walks of T&I can deepen their knowledge in specialised areas, discover new avenues to explore, and get to know colleagues who share their interests. At the same time, sponsors can connect with the T&I community, demonstrate their products and services to their target audience, and gain insight into how they can best support the vital work performed by T&I professionals in bridging cultural and linguistic barriers on a daily basis and at every level of life in our global village.
Past keynote speakers include Professor Paul R Frommer (creator of an entire language, Na’vi, for the box-office hit Avatar); bestselling author and historian Don Watson; the Honourable Justice François Kunc (instrumental in creating the Recommended National Standards for Working with Interpreters in Courts and Tribunals); and Ali Mond, the Assistant Secretary for Migrant English and Language Services at the Australian Government’s Department of Home Affairs.

for court interpreters to report incidents or issues that occur in court interpreting assignments.
Purpose and function of this information submission form.
This form enables you to report issues or problems that you encounter in the course of court interpreting assignments. These issues and problems will be collected by AUSIT to report to the JCCD (the Judicial Council on Cultural Diversity) to monitor the implementation of the Recommended National Standards. The reporting of these issues and problems enables AUSIT to work with the JCCD to suggest steps to address these issues and to avoid the repetition of these problems in the future.
