AUSIT Student Excellence Awards 2025

AUSIT NEWS

Every year, AUSIT’s Educational Affiliates are invited to nominate up to four graduating students each, on the basis of academic merit, to receive AUSIT Student Excellence Awards (SEAs). Congratulations to this year’s 36 recipients (see below), who each receive a certificate (presented at their branch AGM), and are also entitled to view two AUSIT webinars free of charge. Four winners share the most valuable lessons they learned as students:

Xiaoli Liu

Xiaoli Yu:

By exploring the historical, theoretical, ethical and practical dimensions of translation, the program has equipped me to approach real-world translation tasks with greater sensitivity, confidence and critical awareness.

Yawen Hu:

I’ve learned … the importance of active listening. We are often so preoccupied with the task that we fail to take a step back to listen and understand a message before we attempt to interpret it and convey meaning to the audience. Listen first, understand second and then interpret.

Yawen
Shuyu

Shuyu Li:

I learned about the importance of cultural sensitivity. Language is more than words, it carries meaning, history and values. A good interpreter not only conveys messages accurately but also bridges cultural differences to facilitate true understanding.

Ruofan Sun:

Before I joined the program, I thought I would just be decoding a foreign language. Now, I understand I’m not a walking dictionary. I’m a cultural bridge builder, a rights protector, and someone who helps people from diverse backgrounds be heard, seen and respected.
