Join us for a discussion of ethical dilemmas and best practices in the translation industry, featuring participant-submitted challenges to be explored and resolved. This PD is based on real-life examples experienced by translators, consumers of translation services and agencies employing freelance translators. The focus will be on the actions of the translator and how these reflect ethical practice.

Familiarity with the AUSIT Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct, including the section ‘Conduct issues specific to translators’ is recommended before viewing this webinar.

Biography of our Presenter – Dr Jim Hlavac

Dr Jim Hlavac is an adjunct senior research fellow at Monash University. He is a practising NAATI-certified translator and interpreter. He has 12 years’ experience as a translator and interpreter instructor at post-graduate level and has led PD training for translators and interpreters across a variety of fields and topics.

These issues and problems will be collected by AUSIT to report to the JCCD (the Judicial Council on Cultural Diversity) to monitor the implementation of the Recommended National Standards. The reporting of these issues and problems enables AUSIT to work with the JCCD to suggest steps to address these issues and to avoid the repetition of these problems in the future.
