Silvia Martinez

Position:NSW Branch Delegate

About

Silvia works on a freelance basis as an interpreter and translator (Spanish–English), holding NAATI certifications of Certified Specialist Legal Interpreter, Certified Conference Interpreter and Certified Translator.

In the domestic space, Silvia focuses her practice in legal interpreting, having developed particular interest in this area when completing a graduate diploma in interpreting and translating at what was then the University of Western Sydney. She regularly works as a court-appointed interpreter in the NSW criminal jurisdiction through Multicultural NSW and in other contexts with private clients.

Silvia is also involved in the training of new interpreters entering the legal field. Internationally, she has been providing interpreting services within the Antarctic Treaty framework for many years, and loves the challenges posed by the specialised conferences at which she regularly interprets.

Silvia rejoined the AUSIT National Council in 2025 after having been Treasurer from 2015 to 2017. She is now the NSW Branch Chair and sits on the National Council as NSW Branch Appointed Director.  She is also a member of Professionals Australia (Translators and Interpreters Australia), and is on the Spanish-language panel of NAATI examiners.
