Our Presenters:

Sandra Tamele holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture but her love for languages and reading spurred her to literary projects. In 2007, she published the first work that she translated and has since translated 27 novels and short story collections written by, among others, Nobel Literature Laureates Wole Soyinka and Naguib Mahfouz.

Richard Coombes has been a classics scholar, a musician, and an international tax specialist, and is now a translator of Russian-language literature. Richard’s published translations include short stories and poetry in literary journals; poetry in the bilingual World War II poetry collection ‘Frontovaya Lira’; and poetry in the bilingual anthology ‘Disbelief’.

Lilit Žekulin Thwaites is an award-winning Australian literary translator (Spanish>English), Adjunct Professor in contemporary Spanish literature at La Trobe University, and current President of the Australian Association for Literary Translation (AALITRA). Her book translations include the bestselling The Librarian of Auschwitz (A. Iturbe, 2023 & 2017)

Edwige Renée Dro is a writer and a literary translator from Côte d’Ivoire. She has translated short stories by the writer Hemley Boum, the graphic novel series, Aya, written by Marguerite Abouet and children’s literature. As a writer herself, her short stories and essays have been widely anthologised.
